I lied, Marvin wasn’t the last interview. This, however, does conclude the interview series for Issue 2. 100% turnout, and I thank the contributors for answering these questions. Anyway, here’s Holly.
Describe your poetry in 25 words or less.
Exorcism. Mental/verbal diarrhea. Depends on the poem.
Who influenced you most as a writer?
There’s not really one person. Just about everyone around me makes it into one of my poems at one time or another.
Tell us about your poem “Prodigal.”
It’s an old poem. I had a boyfriend a long time ago that had been abused by his stepfather, as had his sister, and he insisted on telling me in agonizing detail, repeatedly, about various incidents. Finally, I had to write something down just so I didn’t have to think about it anymore.
What do you usually write about?
Lately, lots of stuff about birds, and snow.
Do you keep a blog?
No. I tried, but it started to feel even more unread and futile than my poetry.
What are you reading right now?
Saints for Every Occasion—101 of Heaven’s Most Powerful Patrons. I am enjoying it immensely.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
If you don’t enjoy writing what you’re writing, people won’t enjoy reading it, either.
What are you working on right now?
Edits of a novel and a bunch of short stories. Typing up a couple of notebooks’ worth of handwritten poems.
